At 60 kilometres from Lignano Sabbiadoro is located Udine, a pleasant town in which tourists can find the imprint of art and architecture of Venice.
The city was part of the Republic of Venice from 1420 to 1797, becoming very important. After being incorporated into the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia of the Austrian Empire, Udine passed to the Kingdom of Italy in 1866.
On the central Piazza della Libertà you can admire the Loggia del Lionello, a public loggia in Venetian Gothic Style, and the Clock Tower, built in the early 1500s with inspiration from the Venetian tower of St. Mark's Square and with the Moors striking the hours on a bell.
Long steps lead to the Castle of Udine and its belvedere: here you can enjoy the entire city and the territory of Friuli up to the mountains and taste typical products near the Casa della Contadinanza.
Not to be missed is the Palazzo Arcivescovile with the frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo.
